Arunachal Police Dismantle Cross-Border Militant Network Tied to NSCT

Authorities arrested key operatives, seized arms and narcotics, and filed charges under multiple laws as investigations continue into the NSCT and its armed wing UTA.

Overview

  • Arunachal Pradesh Police uncovered a network linked to the National Socialist Council for Taniland (NSCT) and its armed wing, the United Tani Army (UTA), involved in militant recruitment and arms trafficking.
  • The network recruited marginalized tribal youth and attempted to traffic them across the India–Myanmar border for militant training in harsh and abusive conditions.
  • On April 30, a suspect linked to NSCN-KYA was arrested for extortion to fund insurgent activities, leading to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and unaccounted cash.
  • Further investigation revealed connections between the arms trafficking network and a narcotics operation in the Gohpur–Chimpu corridor, resulting in additional arrests and seizures.
  • A chargesheet has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, UAPA, Arms Act, and NDPS Act, while law enforcement continues to pursue leads in the ongoing investigation.
