Overview
- Chief Minister Pema Khandu has formally corrected the record by insisting Arunachal shares its international boundary with Tibet—not China—citing the 1914 Shimla Convention and Tibet’s 1950 occupation.
- He clarified that Arunachal’s frontiers extend roughly 1,200 km with Tibet, about 150 km with Bhutan and around 550 km with Myanmar.
- Beijing has attempted to rename places in Arunachal at least five times since 2017, a policy that New Delhi has officially disputed through its Ministry of External Affairs.
- Khandu will write to the central government to nominate the Dalai Lama for the Bharat Ratna as a show of cultural solidarity and to challenge China’s claim over Tibetan affairs.
- The state government has launched the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project to safeguard water security and counter the threat posed by China’s planned mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River.
