Overview
- On August 5, Chief Minister Pema Khandu handed over KIBO devices to students at the Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired near Itanagar
- Developed by Trestle Labs, each handheld KIBO unit uses AI to recognize printed, handwritten and digital text to enable independent multilingual learning at each student’s own pace
- The initiative stems from a partnership between the state’s Social Justice & Empowerment Department and Trestle Labs to expand accessibility technology in remote regions
- Last month, the Arunachal Pradesh government raised the school’s annual grant-in-aid to Rs 2 crore and created a Rs 5-crore corpus fund to secure sustainable inclusive education
- Officials say the initiative exemplifies the state’s approach of merging technological innovation with compassionate policy to ensure no learner is left behind
