Arunachal Announces Full IIT Aid for Tribal Students, Major Scholarship Hike and Campus Upgrades
Officials say the measures align with NEP 2020 to expand access for tribal youth.
Overview
- The state will fund 100% scholarships for APST students admitted to IIT undergraduate courses and to the top 150 QS-ranked universities for undergraduate and postgraduate study, with 75% support for commercial pilot licences for up to 10 youths each year and training support for 10 in the merchant navy.
- The Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship has been raised to ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh and ₹2 lakh for first, second and third positions starting this academic year.
- Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated new academic and administrative blocks at Dorjee Khandu Government College in Tawang.
- Processes have begun to sanction additional faculty and ministerial staff for the Tawang college, with directives for procurement, boundary demarcation, land allotment and funding for a boundary wall, and a dedicated playground has been proposed near Tawang Stadium.
- Dera Natung Government College will add Sociology and Mass Communication from the next session, a second college is planned for the capital region, and new hostels and other facilities are under construction.
