Aruba Aloe Recalls Hand Sanitizer and Aloe Gel Over Methanol Risks

The FDA warns that exposure to methanol in these products can lead to serious health consequences, including blindness and coma.

  • Aruba Aloe Balm N. V. is recalling 40 lots of its hand sanitizer and aloe gel products due to methanol contamination, which can be toxic when applied to the skin or ingested.
  • The recalled products were distributed between May 1, 2021, and October 27, 2023, and sold online in the U.S. through the Aruba Aloe Balm website.
  • Exposure to methanol can result in serious health issues such as nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, kidney failure, coma, seizures, permanent blindness, and damage to the central nervous system.
  • The FDA recommends consumers immediately stop using the products and dispose of them, and to contact their healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems related to using the products.
  • Aruba Aloe Balm N. V. has not received any reports of adverse events related to these products as of April 5, 2024.
