Overview
- A large grass and gorse fire began on Arthur's Seat on Sunday evening after SFRS were alerted at about 6:38pm and smoke was visible across the city and as far as Fife.
- Scottish Fire and Rescue Service initially sent four appliances, increased resources to six and specialist units, worked through the night, and left the scene at about 1pm on Tuesday after damping down hotspots.
- There were no reported injuries from the Arthur's Seat incident and Police Scotland closed Queen's Drive while advising nearby residents to keep windows and doors shut.
- SFRS said the area burned at Arthur's Seat was small (about 0.01 km²) compared with the much larger Cairngorms wildfire of several square kilometres that continues to require helicopters and specialist wildfire teams.
- The cause of the Arthur's Seat fire remains under investigation, SFRS will continue monitoring the area, and national leaders have urged the public to be vigilant and avoid any open flames in high-risk areas.
