Overview
- The Toronto museum says the family of Carol and Morton Rapp has donated more than 450 works spanning the late 1960s through the early 21st century.
- The trove centers on prints, drawings and photographs and features 13 Andy Warhol screen prints, including four Marilyn Monroe portraits.
- Additional artists represented include Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Barnett Newman, Claes Oldenburg, Kara Walker, William Kentridge, Yinka Shonibare, Rachel Whiteread and Lee Bontecou.
- The gift encompasses works by roughly 203 artists and builds on 474 pieces the couple had previously donated to support the AGO’s narrative on modern printmaking.
- Director Stephan Jost called the donation transformative and said the museum expects to present selections to the public in about two years.
