Art Dealer Gets Prison Time for Peddling Fake Warhols and Banksys

Daniel Elie Bouaziz was sentenced to more than two years in prison for selling forged artworks claiming they were authentic originals by famous artists like Andy Warhol and Banksy.
Bouaziz pleaded guilty to money laundering and other fraud charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Bouaziz sold the fake art to customers who thought they were buying valuable, authentic pieces and used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Bouaziz was fined $15,000 and owes additional restitution to his victims according to a forthcoming hearing.
As a French citizen, Bouaziz was prohibited from owning or operating an art gallery in the U.S.
