Arshad Nadeem Will Skip Lausanne to Train in Potchefstroom

The Olympic champion is prioritising a two-week South Africa training camp to rebuild form before the World Athletics Ultimate Championships and the Asian Games.

Overview

  • Multiple outlets reported on Wednesday that Nadeem and his coach Salman Butt decided he will not compete at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21 and will instead travel to Potchefstroom for focused training.
  • The camp is planned to last about two weeks and will include work with coach Terseus Liebenberg and local trainers, but Nadeem must first obtain a visa before departing.
  • Nadeem is currently undertaking intensive sessions at Punjab Stadium in Lahore as he ramps up preparations ahead of the Budapest World Athletics Ultimate Championships (Sept. 6–14) and then the Asian Games in Japan.
  • The move follows a disappointing ninth-place finish at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where Nadeem threw 77.41 metres and said cold conditions disrupted his run-up and performance.
  • Coverage also reports tensions with Pakistani sports bodies, with some outlets saying the Pakistan Amateur Athletics Federation distanced itself over a coaching dispute and the Pakistan Sports Board allegedly withheld funds for foreign coaches; those claims are sourced to PTI and remain reported rather than independently confirmed.
