Arrests in Dearborn After Pardoned Jan. 6 Figure Tries to Burn Quran at Anti-Muslim Rally

Police say they contained brief clashes as residents blocked the attempted burning.

Overview

  • Jake Lang, a Jan. 6 defendant pardoned by President Trump and now a Florida Senate candidate, led a small anti-Muslim demonstration in Dearborn and repeatedly tried to ignite a Quran.
  • Counter-protesters stopped the attempts, including one who seized the book after Lang tapped it with bacon, and Lang was punched once as the march moved toward City Hall.
  • Dearborn police reported three arrests from different groups, emphasized protection of constitutional rights and property, and said officers managed the situation without major injuries.
  • Lang used explicit white-nationalist rhetoric during the march and later addressed the City Council, while also spray-painting “cuck” on a campaign bus previously tied to GOP gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson.
  • Hudson, who had walked back earlier Sharia claims after visiting local mosques, disavowed outside plans to burn the Quran as CAIR-MI and community leaders urged dialogue and de-escalation.
