Overview

• Lake County authorities obtained a homicide arrest warrant for Shahidul Islam on Sept. 2 in the killing of his sister-in-law, Monica Islam.
• Shahidul has been in federal custody since May 6 after U.S. Marshals arrested him in New York on an immigration warrant, and he will be transferred to Lake County once immigration requirements are resolved.
• Monica, 44, was found dead on May 2 at a Mount Dora intersection, and her death was ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
• Investigators cite a December 2024 incident involving Monica, her husband Rashedul, and Shahidul that included alleged assault, theft of jewelry and Bangladesh property paperwork, and a gun pointed at her to deter a 911 call.
• Authorities say Shahidul left Sanford after the killing and drove a rental car to New York. Eustis police report that Rashedul fled the country before a prior arrest warrant could be served.
