Arrest Reported After Cypress Roadway Shooting That Killed 5-Year-Old

Investigators say automated license-plate reader data produced a lead that led to an arrest and Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for tips.

Overview

  • A vehicle carrying a mother and her five children was struck by gunfire late Saturday night on the 11800 block of Grant Road in Cypress, and a 5-year-old girl was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital and pronounced dead.
  • The mother, Monica Hicks, told reporters her car was shot at least five times and she described an older white four-door Ford as the approaching vehicle.
  • Two other children in the car suffered cuts from shattered glass and the family members witnessed the trauma of their sister being hit.
  • Harris County investigators initially called the case a possible road-rage shooting and said automated license-plate reader technology helped produce a lead that led to an arrest reported by the sheriff’s office.
  • Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, with a reward of up to $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.
