Overview

• A 31-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop and remains in police custody.
• The crash happened shortly after 3pm on September 10 when a black Audi A5 left the northbound M57 between junctions 2 and 3 and caught fire.
• The driver, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead from serious injuries, and a post-mortem has been arranged to determine the cause of death.
• The M57 northbound between junctions 2 and 3 remains closed for recovery and forensic work, while the southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 has reopened.
• Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to motorists who were in the area around 3pm to check dashcam footage and share any relevant information.
