Arnold Schwarzenegger was detained at Munich Airport for allegedly failing to declare a luxury watch he was planning to auction for charity.
The watch, made by Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet, is valued at around £20,000 and was custom-made for Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger was held for three hours and faced issues with paying the tax due to a malfunctioning card machine and ATM withdrawal limits.
Criminal tax proceedings have been initiated against Schwarzenegger, according to Munich customs officials.
The watch was still likely to be auctioned at a charity event for The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative in Austria.
