Arnhem Centraal Marks 10 Years With Ongoing Leak Repairs

Repairs to faulty water drains are scheduled to finish by April 2026.

Overview

  • NS, ProRail and the municipality celebrated the station’s 10th anniversary on 19 November with performances and a vintage train ride to Wolfheze organized with the Stoomgenootschap.
  • Station management says recurring perron leakage stems from incorrectly installed water drainage and that work to fix it is underway.
  • Arnhem Centraal now handles about 60,000 train passengers daily, rising to roughly 75,000 when bus travelers are included.
  • The award‑winning design by architect Ben van Berkel features a high hall with a wave‑like roof and extensive glass, helping cement the station as a city landmark.
  • The project opened in 2015 after years of delays and cost overruns, with a final cost of about €155 million against an original €65 million budget, partly driven by the complexity that deterred contractors.
