Army Toughens Stance on Alleged Facilitators as KP Operations Surge, TLP Protests Disrupt Parliament

DG ISPR used a Peshawar briefing to tie persistent violence to a political–criminal nexus and to issue three choices to alleged external backers.

Overview

  • DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Choudhry said terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is being enabled by a political–criminal nexus and warned alleged facilitators to surrender foreign fighters, join state actions, or face force.
  • The military reported 14,535 intelligence-based operations in KP in 2024 and 10,115 so far in 2025, citing daily raids and hundreds of militants neutralized, with Afghanistan-based sanctuaries and Indian backing alleged.
  • In Orakzai, security forces killed 19 militants in an Oct 7–8 operation as 11 soldiers fell, including Lt Col Junaid Tariq and Major Taib Rahat; the prime minister and president praised the forces and a Punjab Assembly resolution lauded the operation.
  • Ongoing security actions included a foiled VBIED and assault at the DI Khan police training center that left three attackers dead and three police wounded, the CTD killing two most-wanted militants in Bannu, and the NCCIA arresting two suspects in Karachi over sensitive data transfers abroad.
  • TLP-led demonstrations triggered road closures and a security lockdown that forced the Senate to adjourn indefinitely, shut schools and exams, suspended metro services and mobile internet in parts of Punjab, and prompted arrests after clashes in Lahore where police reported two protester deaths.
