Overview

  • Shyam Sankar of Palantir, Andrew Bosworth of Meta, Kevin Weil of OpenAI and Bob McGrew of Thinking Machines Lab were sworn in as lieutenant colonels in the Army Reserve today.
  • Under Detachment201, the new Executive Innovation Corps recruits part-time advisers from the private sector to help scale commercial technologies across Army units.
  • The executives will attend a six-week Direct Commissioning Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, completing the Army Fitness Test and marksmanship qualification before beginning advisory duties.
  • Their advisory work will inform development of future weapon systems and prototype units testing unmanned aerial systems, electronic warfare jammers and robotics applications.
  • The initiative is a central element of Gen. Randy George’s Transformation Initiative and was inspired by improvised drones and 3D printed parts used by Ukrainian forces in their conflict with Russia.
