Army Replaces 30th Military Zone Chief in Villahermosa After Warrant Disclosure

The change follows months of friction after the outgoing commander publicized an arrest warrant for former security chief Hernán Bermúdez Requena.

Overview

  • Gen. Jesús Alejandro Adame Cabrera took command of the 30th Military Zone at a 06:00 ceremony on Sept. 16 at the 37th Infantry Battalion in Villahermosa attended by Governor Javier May.
  • He replaces Gen. Miguel Ángel López Martínez, who arrived on Feb. 4 and completed a notably brief seven-month tenure.
  • In July, López Martínez told Radio Fórmula that an arrest warrant for ex–Tabasco public security chief Hernán Bermúdez Requena, described as the alleged leader of La Barredora, had been issued on Feb. 14.
  • The outgoing commander asserted that the prior state administration left cartel leaders without investigation files and credited the current government with enabling arrest orders.
  • Former governor Manuel Andrade Díaz criticized López Martínez, alleging he acted to benefit Governor Javier May and to harm Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández by pushing a fabricated case.
