Army Picks Lockheed’s Spike NLOS for First Phase of Mobile Long-Range Strike Program

The choice positions Spike NLOS for safety confirmation testing next in a competition that will narrow the field.

Overview

  • The U.S. Army down selected Spike NLOS for the opening phase of the Mobile‑Long Range Precision Strike Missile effort to prototype an Infantry Brigade Combat Team capability.
  • Lockheed Martin reported a Dugway Proving Grounds demo with three vehicle‑launched shots that hit one unobstructed and two obstructed targets without direct line of sight.
  • In Poland, a 12th Combat Aviation Brigade AH‑64Ev6 fired two Spike NLOS missiles at sea targets out to about 25 kilometers, marking the system’s first U.S. Army employment in the European theater.
  • Spike NLOS is already qualified on the AH‑64E under the Long Range Precision Munitions directed requirement and has been integrated on the JLTV for U.S. Special Operations Command.
  • Phase two will conduct safety confirmation testing and further down‑selection, with the Army revising cost projections across the FYDP based on vendor pricing while Lockheed promotes rapid fielding to IBCT light vehicles.
