Army Opens Inquiry After Soldier Killed in LoC Landmine Blast

The Indian Army has launched a formal investigation into the M16 mine explosion along the Krishna Ghati sector as the two injured soldiers recover in hospital.

Overview

  • The explosion occurred at 12:15 p.m. on July 25 near Victor Post in Salotri village when an M16 anti-personnel mine detonated during an area domination patrol.
  • Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment was killed on the spot, and two soldiers—including a Junior Commissioned Officer—were injured and later airlifted to Udhampur military hospital.
  • Officials said the site had been mined to deter militant infiltration from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir but the patrol inadvertently entered the minefield.
  • The White Knight Corps, Northern Command and Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor paid homage to the fallen soldier through social media tributes and a public ceremony.
  • Troop commanders have maintained heightened vigilance along the Line of Control and adapted anti-infiltration measures as cross-border shelling continues under Operation Sindoor.
