Overview

  • DGCA said Lt Col Ritesh Kumar Singh has been placed on India’s no-fly list for five years, with SpiceJet separately banning him for the same period after he was deemed an unruly passenger.
  • The July 26 incident at Srinagar’s boarding gate for flight SG 386 began over excess cabin baggage weighing 16 kg against the 7 kg limit, with the passenger forcing into the aerobridge before CISF escorted him back.
  • SpiceJet reported four injured staffers, including a spinal fracture and serious jaw trauma, and provided CCTV footage of the altercation to police.
  • Police registered an FIR under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the officer filed a counter-complaint leading to a cross-FIR, and the Army said it is cooperating with investigators.
  • Under CAR rules the decision can be appealed within 60 days and the national no-fly list is shared across Indian carriers, as authorities note 379 passengers barred over the past five years.
