Army Expands Flood Relief in Punjab and Jammu as Sappers Save Mother and 15-Day-Old Baby

Western Command reports 47 relief columns with 20 aircraft deployed to reach cut-off communities.

  • The duo was moved about 3 km by boat through strong currents and then 15 km in an Army vehicle to safety, with officials providing care during the evacuation.
  • Western Command says 47 Army columns are conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations across parts of Punjab and the Jammu region.
  • Aviation support includes 20 aircraft comprising three Dhruv ALHs, 10 reconnaissance and observation helicopters, six Mi-17s and one Chinook for evacuations and supply drops.
  • Flooding has affected multiple Punjab districts, including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Kapurthala and Jalandhar, as the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers run high, with senior commanders reviewing relief efforts on the ground.
