Overview
- The Indian Army used the amphibious ATOR N1200 in flood-hit Amritsar on Thursday, with videos showing the vehicle evacuating stranded residents through standing water.
- JSW Gecko Motors said it dispatched four ATOR N1200s to Amritsar and Sultanpur Lodhi at the civil administration’s request to support evacuations and essential deliveries.
- The company said the vehicles are working under the district collector’s office in coordination with SDRF, NDRF and the Army, and that the deployment is being provided as humanitarian aid.
- Key features include low-pressure tyres that aid flotation and propulsion in water, a payload capacity up to 1,200 kg, seating for nine, and speeds of about 40 km/h on land and 6 km/h in water.
- The indigenously built vehicle was showcased at the 2024 Republic Day Parade and inducted under a Ministry of Defence order reported at 96 units worth roughly ₹250 crore, with earlier deployment in Sikkim.
