Overview
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Kansas City District has embarked on a comprehensive renovation of the lodge’s electrical, plumbing, mechanical and roofing systems
- Historic masonry experts are restoring the red brick exterior, slate tile roof and original windows to period-specific specifications
- Modern upgrades include a new HVAC installation and upgraded fire alarm system to enhance safety and functionality
- All work must comply with Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties under the lodge’s 1999 National Register listing
- Upon completion, the 150-year-old lodge will continue serving as administrative offices and symbolically watch over the cemetery’s military burials
