Army Awards GA-ASI Contract to Add CMOSS EW Suite to MQ-1C Gray Eagle

The open-architecture integration using AeroVironment’s SharkCage chassis is intended to extend deep sensing and electronic warfare reach for ER and STOL aircraft in Indo-Pacific–relevant missions.

Overview

  • Announced October 13, 2025, the award funds a CMOSS-compliant electronic warfare capability for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle UAS.
  • General Atomics will integrate AeroVironment’s SharkCage Expeditionary C5ISR Chassis (ECCv3) as the core hardware for the new payload.
  • The upgrade is the third electronic warfare system fitted to the Gray Eagle’s modular chassis, following Electronic Attack, Communications Relay, Counter-UAS, and Signals Intelligence additions.
  • GA-ASI’s Modular Open Systems Architecture enables rapid, plug-and-play insertion across Gray Eagle Extended Range and Short Takeoff and Landing variants.
  • The capability is aimed at long-range deep sensing and EW effects to boost survivability and lethality in contested environments such as the INDOPACOM area of responsibility.
