Overview
- A joint sweep by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police uncovered a suspected hideout inside a natural cave in Surankote’s Satharban forest and recovered one AK-47, a magazine, 30 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, six hand grenades with fuses, and food and medical supplies.
- The operation, which began Monday evening and produced the cache on Tuesday, involved Army personnel including para commandos and was launched after reports of suspicious movement in Poonch’s border forests.
- Security teams have taken the recovered material into legal custody and launched a police probe to determine where the weapons came from and whether the cache links to any active militant network.
- No arrests or contact with suspects have been reported so far, and search operations are continuing in higher reaches of Majalta and Billawar while explosive-ordnance teams continue mine-clearance work.
- Troops also found and destroyed two rusted landmines in the Basoni area of Mendhar, underscoring persistent explosive hazards near the Line of Control that complicate patrols and civilian movement in frontier communities.
