Arkansas to Send 100 National Guard Troops to D.C. After Thanksgiving

The several-month rotation follows a federal extension of the capital’s Guard mission through February 2026.

Overview

  • One hundred soldiers from the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade will mobilize at Fort Chaffee for administrative processing, medical and dental screening, and mission-specific training before deploying.
  • The Arkansas contingent will support the D.C. National Guard’s civil security operations by conducting presence patrols and providing law-enforcement support in designated areas.
  • State officials said the deployment will be federally funded and will serve as a routine rotational relief for units already on the mission in Washington.
  • A Department of Justice court notice stated the D.C. National Guard received direction to extend the mission through Feb. 28, 2026, with roughly 2,300–2,400 Guard personnel currently in the district.
  • Legal challenges and court scrutiny over the use and duration of Guard forces in Washington continue, with no new ruling reported.
