Arkansas Officer Fired After Video Shows Assault on Handcuffed Detainee

Jonesboro Police Department terminates officer Joseph Harris following release of disturbing footage; case referred to prosecutors and FBI.

Officer Joseph Harris was caught on video punching and elbowing a detainee in the back of a patrol car.
The detainee, Billy Lee Coram, was handcuffed and wearing a hospital gown at the time of the assault.
The incident occurred after Coram attempted to strangle himself with a seatbelt while in the moving vehicle.
Jonesboro Police Chief Rick Elliott immediately fired Harris and contacted federal and state authorities.
Harris has a history of excessive force and is currently involved in a wrongful death lawsuit.
