Arkansas Guard Sends 120 Troops and Lakota Helicopters to Texas Border for 13-Month Federal Mission

The federally authorized rotation places the unit under U.S. Northern Command to provide non-combat aviation support for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Overview

  • Nearly 120 Guardsmen departed Oct. 5 from Camp Joseph T. Robinson in North Little Rock for the Texas-Mexico border.
  • The deployment includes four UH-72 Lakota helicopters from the 1-114th Security and Support Aviation Regiment under the 77th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade.
  • Personnel first mobilize through Fort Hood before dispersing to assigned locations along the border.
  • Arkansas troops will operate alongside roughly 170 additional Guardsmen and more than a dozen UH-72s from 1-114th companies in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Louisiana.
  • Officials describe the Title 10 mission as a routine rotation replacing other Guard units, with a planned return in November 2026 and leadership praising the soldiers' professionalism.
