Arkansas Adds Driver’s Licenses to Apple Wallet

Residents can present verified digital IDs at select TSA checkpoints, airports, and university venues.

Overview

  • Arkansas announced Wednesday that residents can add their driver’s license and state ID to Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch, making it the 14th U.S. state or territory to enable the feature.
  • The state says the digital ID is a companion to the physical card and that residents must continue to carry their paper or plastic license for routine use and for encounters with police.
  • Apple Wallet IDs already work at more than 250 U.S. TSA checkpoints for domestic travel and Arkansas plans campus and stadium use starting this fall.
  • On-device setup requires using the Wallet app and following Apple’s verification steps, and some users may not see the option immediately because the rollout will reach devices gradually.
  • Wider, everyday use by law enforcement and other agencies will depend on local investments in compatible readers and officer training, while Arkansas already offers mobile ID access through a state app plus Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet support.
