Arizona State self-imposes 2023 bowl ban amid NCAA recruiting probe of former coach Herm Edwards

Arizona State announced a self-imposed bowl ban for 2023 due to NCAA recruiting violations under former coach Herm Edwards.
The NCAA began investigating ASU in June 2021 over allegations coaches disregarded recruiting dead periods during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five ASU coaches have left or been fired due to the investigation, including former coordinators Antonio Pierce and Zak Hill.
Herm Edwards left ASU in September 2022 by "mutual agreement" and was replaced by Kenny Dillingham as head coach.
The self-imposed bowl ban indicates Arizona State is cooperating with the NCAA in hopes of avoiding harsher penalties.
