Arizona Man Accused of Stealing Over $300,000 in Cryptocurrency While Posing as Uber Driver

Authorities allege the suspect used passengers' phones to transfer funds to his digital wallet in a sophisticated fraud scheme.

Nuruhussein Hussein, 40, was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, for allegedly stealing over $300,000 in cryptocurrency from unsuspecting Uber passengers.
Police and the U.S. Secret Service uncovered the scheme, which reportedly took place between March and December 2024, targeting passengers at a Scottsdale hotel.
Hussein allegedly asked passengers to unlock their phones under false pretenses and used them to transfer cryptocurrency from victims’ wallets to his own.
He faces multiple charges, including theft, fraud, and money laundering, and is being held on a $200,000 bond with electronic monitoring and internet restrictions if released.
The case highlights the growing prevalence of cryptocurrency fraud, which cost U.S. victims $5.6 billion in 2023 according to the FBI.
