Arizona Fugitive Michael Wiseman Arrested in France on New Child Sex Charges

French prosecutors moved after a Scottsdale-led email search uncovered videos that investigators say depict child sexual abuse.

Overview

  • Wiseman, Scottsdale police’s No. 2 most-wanted fugitive, was taken into custody in Kilstett on Nov. 1 and remains jailed in France.
  • He faces charges of rape and sexual assault of a minor under 15 under French law, with those proceedings expected to precede any U.S. extradition.
  • Detectives obtained a warrant for his email in October and say they recovered videos later confirmed by the Arizona ICAC Task Force as child sexual abuse material.
  • A provisional arrest request submitted with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and routed through DOJ’s Office of International Affairs helped French authorities confirm his location.
  • Authorities say Wiseman fled U.S. supervision twice since 2008, used the alias Robert Danilewski with a Polish passport after travel through Vietnam and Poland, and was previously arrested in Spain in 2009.
