Arizona and New Mexico Universities Awarded $43.6 Million CTSA to Create SW CACTI

The new hub will expand trial access across the Southwest.

Overview

  • The seven-year package includes about $38.8 million for the core Clinical and Translational Science Award plus a $4.8 million K12 training award.
  • Each institution will support five early‑career translational scientists per year under the five‑year K12 program.
  • Early work will study a new addiction consult service at UNM Hospital, measuring post‑discharge follow‑up for opioid use disorder and comparing results with a rural hospital rollout.
  • Banner Health will serve as the University of Arizona’s primary clinical implementing partner alongside a network of Arizona collaborators.
  • SW CACTI will fund pilot research with half of projects single‑site and half cross‑institutional, and leaders say the partnership more than doubles trial opportunities for both states.
