Argentine Water Incidents: Teen Found Dead in Paraná River Search as Tourist Remains Missing in Río Negro

Prefectura with local police lead parallel operations after separate water emergencies.

Overview

  • Prefectura divers recovered the body of 16-year-old Samir H. on Wednesday morning near where he entered the Paraná at Bajada Bella Vista in Puerto General San Martín.
  • The adolescent disappeared Tuesday around 3 p.m.; the search involved Prefectura units by river and land with support from San Lorenzo volunteer firefighters and tactical divers, and the case is now under prosecutor Luisina Paponi.
  • In a separate case in San Antonio Este, Río Negro, 55-year-old tourist Pablo Alejandro Morell Corrales remains missing after Prefectura found a kayak adrift about one kilometer offshore containing a backpack with alcoholic beverages.
  • Investigators fixed his last confirmed location at the coastal sector La Almeja Loca on January 3 around 8:30 p.m., seized electronic devices from his lodging, and took a taxi driver’s statement placing him at the Club de Pescadores with a kayak.
  • Authorities continue coordinated coastal and maritime searches and clarified that a body recently found in the Río Neuquén does not match Morell Corrales.
