Argentine Researchers Develop Serious Games to Prevent Grooming and Bullying

Both projects are about halfway complete with a goal of free deployment in schools.

Overview

  • CONICET, Universidad Austral and UADE are co-developing a detective-style game for children aged 9–11 to teach recognition of online grooming through digital clues.
  • Players investigate a child’s disappearance by reviewing messages, social media interactions and searches, earning points and practical prevention tips for identifying risks.
  • A separate simulation places adolescents as bystanders to school bullying and requires them to choose whether to join, withdraw or seek adult help, with outcomes fed back by the system.
  • The initiative is led by UADE’s Juan Gill, with CONICET researcher Santiago Resett outlining aims to build empathy and encourage civic courage to intervene or ask for help.
  • Developers say the tools will be free for classroom use and for families once development is completed.
