Argentine Man Killed in Tulum Cenote Club Shooting

Officials have yet to identify the shooters, with consular support under way for repatriation.

Overview

  • Hospital General IMSS-Bienestar in Playa del Carmen confirmed on Jan. 10 that 37-year-old Jonatan Emanuel Minucci died after being shot at Vesica/Cenote Vésica in Tulum.
  • Witnesses reported that armed men arrived and fired at least eight 9mm rounds, hitting Minucci in the neck, face, arms and chest.
  • Two men — Deyran de Jesús, 30, and Saúl, 34, a federal employee — were wounded in the attack and remain under medical observation.
  • Authorities say no suspects have been identified, investigations are ongoing, and state and federal security have been reinforced in high-traffic tourist areas.
  • The Argentine consulate is assisting with repatriation, and Minucci’s family has launched a public fundraiser as officials also examine other shootings that day, including one at Festival Tehmplo that left at least one person dead.
