Argentine Línea Blanca Import Regime Kicks In for Travelers During Chilean Long Weekend

Travelers over 16 must use ARCA’s OM2153-A form to pay duties under the General Import Regime when bringing home one new appliance per category this year.

Overview

  • Since July, Instrucción IG-2025-3-E-ARCA-DGADUA lets Argentines import one new ‘línea blanca’ appliance per category per calendar year for personal use.
  • Large appliances enter under the General Import Regime rather than the US$300/US$500 luggage franchise and incur a 14% import duty, 21% VAT, 11% income tax and 2.5% gross receipts tax.
  • A US$400 refrigerator example shows travelers pay 50% on the US$100 excess over the US$300 land allowance plus additional charges, lifting the final cost to about AR$1.4 million before transport.
  • Importers must complete form OM2153-A on the ARCA ‘Viajeros’ microsite, generate and settle the duty liquidation and present the payment receipt to Customs for release.
  • The Asunción de la Virgen María holiday in Chile, with an estimated 300,000 tourists, will serve as the first major test of consumer uptake for the new appliance import allowance.
