Argentine Deep-Sea Mission Wraps Up as Falkor (Too) Returns to Port

Scientists have begun processing samples to enable publication of ROV SuBastian footage in open repositories ahead of the vessel’s next missions in Uruguay and Argentine canyons.

  • The Talud Continental IV expedition concluded on August 10 as the RV Falkor (Too) docked in Buenos Aires on August 12.
  • Scientists have commenced laboratory processing of deep-sea samples ranging from benthic fauna to microplastic debris.
  • All UHD ROV SuBastian video, 3D species models and datasets are slated for open release via Conicet Digital, OBIS and GenBank.
  • The Falkor (Too) will embark on the Uruguay SUB200 mission from August 22 to September 19 before returning for Bahía Blanca and Almirante Brown canyon surveys in late September and October.
  • Researchers have requested logistical privacy while completing post-cruise analysis and equipment turnover.
