Argentine Court Acquits Andrea del Boca and All Co-Defendants in 'Mamá Corazón' Case

The tribunal will publish its written reasoning on November 25, with only the formal explanation still pending.

Overview

  • Tribunal Oral Federal N°7 unanimously cleared Del Boca, ex-minister Julio De Vido, former UNSAM rector Carlos Ruta and the remaining defendants of alleged fraud tied to 2015 funding.
  • Judges lifted all embargos and ordered the episodes held in judicial custody to be placed at the disposal of the national Secretariat of Culture.
  • The verdict rejects a prosecution request that sought three and a half years for Del Boca, four and a half for De Vido, and about US$3.126 million in restitution.
  • The trial, conducted virtually since March, heard around 100 testimonies before defendants delivered brief final statements, with Del Boca thanking the court.
  • Prosecutors had alleged about 36 million pesos were channeled via a UNSAM agreement to Del Boca’s A+A Group, but the court found no crimes in the contracting arrangements.
