Argentine Cities Set New Year’s Holiday Schedules With No Night Trash Pickup and Reduced Transit

Officials urge compliance with temporary hours to prevent sanitation problems.

  • Waste collection is suspended overnight, with Salta halting service from 21:00 on Dec. 31 and resuming at 21:00 on Jan. 1, while La Plata cancels night pickup both days and asks residents not to put out trash.
  • Public transport runs on shortened timetables: Saeta’s last buses pass central Salta at 19:00 today and operate 10:00–22:00 on Jan. 1 before normal service returns Jan. 2; Jujuy’s urban lines run until 21:00 today and restart at 17:00 tomorrow; La Plata’s municipal lines follow a Saturday schedule today and a holiday frequency tomorrow.
  • Paid parking applies today and is suspended on Jan. 1 in La Plata and Jujuy, with Jujuy taxis charging Tarifa 1 today and Tarifa 2 tomorrow and urban elevators operating on limited hours today and not running on Jan. 1.
  • Municipal service centers are closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in Salta and La Plata and reopen Jan. 2, while markets observe special hours today and close on Jan. 1, including Salta’s Mercado San Miguel (8:00–17:30) and La Plata’s Mercado Bonaerense (8:00–13:00).
  • Emergency coverage remains in place as Salta’s provincial hospitals keep active and passive guards, La Plata’s SAME operates and CAPS maintain 24-hour nursing guards, and Salta’s municipal animal hospital limits attention to urgent cases during set hours.
