Argentine Car Production Drops While Exports Take Most Output

Exports now account for the bulk of output, highlighting growing reliance on foreign markets to make up for weak local sales.

Overview

  • September production totaled 39,747 vehicles, a 15.6% decline from September 2025 but a 0.9% rise from August.
  • Manufacturers exported 28,213 cars in September, up 6.8% year‑on‑year and equal to about 71% of that month’s production.
  • Cumulative output from January to September reached 314,975 units, a 16.9% fall from 2025, while cumulative exports rose to 203,072 vehicles, up 1.6% year‑on‑year.
  • Wholesale deliveries to dealers remain weak with a January–September total of 344,589 units, down 24.3% year‑on‑year, and full‑year registrations are projected near 550,000 vehicles, roughly 10% below 2025.
  • Operational restarts such as GM’s Alvear plant resuming normal work in August give partial relief, but industry leaders say improvements in competitiveness, infrastructure and market access are needed to turn fragile monthly gains into a sustained recovery.
