Judges concluded that publishing an uncensored image of the off-duty officer behind his fence violated his dignity, prompting a 3 million-peso award.

Overview

  • An appellate panel reversed a 2024 dismissal and held Google responsible for flagrantly invading the officer’s private domain.
  • The uncensored photograph was taken in 2017 by a Street View car in Bragado while the officer stood naked behind a two-meter wall.
  • Judges cited Google’s own policy of blurring faces and plates as evidence that the company owed a duty to prevent harm to bystanders.
  • Cablevision SA and El Censor SRL were absolved after the court determined their broadcasts only underscored Google’s misstep.
  • Google has not publicly indicated whether it will appeal or confirmed removal of the image from its Street View service.
