Argentina’s Used-Car Sales Set September Record as Mexico Sees Slight Auto Rebound

Interior-led gains in Argentina contrasted with Mexico's modest monthly rise that still trails last year's pace.

  • Argentina logged 171,364 used vehicles sold in September, the strongest ninth month on record, up 5.45% year over year and 2.29% from August, according to the CCA.
  • Year to date through September, used-vehicle transfers in Argentina reached 1,436,656, a 13.84% increase versus 2024, with the Volkswagen Gol leading September activity at 9,313 operations.
  • Growth was concentrated in interior provinces, led by Formosa (+38.26%), Neuquén (+32.64%), Catamarca (+28.81%) and Santiago del Estero (+27.42%).
  • In Santiago del Estero, new-car registrations fell 5.78% from August to 668 units in September, while used transfers rose 1.53% month over month and totaled 9,138 in January–September versus 5,625 new registrations.
  • Mexico sold 117,182 vehicles in September, a 0.3% annual increase after five monthly declines, leaving January–September sales at 1,081,175 (-0.6% y/y), with Nissan leading the month at 20,872 units (17.8%) and posting 11.5% annual growth.
