Argentina’s Used-Car Market Posts Strongest First-Half Since 1995

Stable prices paired with abundant supply have driven record transfers even as bank financing remains scarce.

Overview

  • Used-car transfers totaled 918,404 units from January to June, a 24.2% increase over the same period in 2024 and the highest first-half sales since records began in 1995.
  • June transfers reached 143,191 vehicles, marking a 15.6% year-on-year rise and the strongest June performance in ten years despite a 7.5% drop from May.
  • The Volkswagen Gol remained the most traded model with 7,726 transfers in June.
  • Five northern provinces led growth rates, including Formosa (+58.4%), La Rioja (+53.5%), Catamarca (+52.0%), Chaco (+51.2%) and Jujuy (+49.8%).
  • The segment’s surge is underpinned by price and currency stability and aggressive supply policies while bank financing uptake stays low, and full-year sales could approach 1.8 million units if current momentum continues.
