Argentina’s Supreme Court Begins Executing US$61 Million Seizure in Báez “Money Route” Case

The step consolidates judicial control of the seized assets following a ruling that froze the executive’s recovery council.

Overview

  • The court notified TOF 4 Judge Néstor Costabel by official letter signed by Supreme Court official Sergio Romero to activate the transfers and registrations.
  • It ordered real estate tied to Lázaro and Martín Báez to be recorded under the Supreme Court’s name and requested funds be sent to two court accounts, one in pesos and one in dollars, under Penal Code arts. 23 and 305 and Criminal Procedure Code art. 522.
  • The amounts to be incorporated total US$61,130,860.86 plus roughly ARS 4,174,697 indexed by the INDEC consumer price measure, including proceeds from prior asset auctions.
  • The underlying decomisos were imposed by TOF 4 in April 2021, upheld by the Federal Cassation Court in February 2023, and left final by the Supreme Court in May 2025 with votes by Rosatti, Rosenkrantz and Lorenzetti.
  • An October ruling by Judge Pablo Cayssials suspended Decree 575/2025 that created the Executive’s Council of Recovered Assets, so the execution proceeds under judicial administration.
