Argentina’s Sunflower Industry Posts Best October in a Decade as Milling Rises 34%

Officials attribute the rebound to greater raw‑material supply, firmer prices, streamlined rules.

Overview

  • October milling reached 448,259 tonnes, standing 138% above the 10‑year October average.
  • Exports totaled 243,084 tonnes worth US$156.9 million, up 33% in volume and 35% in value year over year.
  • Growth was driven mainly by higher sales of sunflower seeds and oil, according to official data.
  • The top destinations included the Netherlands, India, Chile, Uruguay, Oman, Paraguay, the United States, Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, which together took more than 38% of shipments.
  • The Agriculture Secretariat says deregulation, tax reductions and a push to open markets have supported producers, processors and exporters.
