Argentina’s Registered Employment Falls Again in August as Private-Sector Losses Deepen

Official data point to a renewed slide centered in private payrolls with more workers registering under the monotributo regime.

Overview

  • Seasonally adjusted employment fell by 13,062 in August 2025, including 10,555 fewer private-sector jobs, 1,735 fewer public positions, and 772 fewer in domestic work.
  • Monotributo registrations rose by 5,539 in the month, partially offsetting formal losses but indicating a shift toward lower-protection work categories.
  • Since November 2023, registered employment has fallen by 223,796 positions, a 2.2% decline concentrated in private payrolls and domestic service.
  • Sector results were mixed, with gains in fishing and modest increases in hotels, restaurants, and utilities, while finance, mining, construction, real estate services, and manufacturing contracted.
  • Regional data show deep declines in several provinces, including 13,900 private jobs lost in Santa Fe since late 2023, as survey indicators suggest another small private-sector drop in September.
