Overview
- The Falkor (Too) remains in Buenos Aires four days past its planned Sept. 30 departure because a Ministry of Defense signature is still pending, leaving about 25 scientists waiting at dock 3.
- Government sources told La Nación the snag stems from an issue in the cooperation agreement and said there is no fundamental dispute, with a decision expected after today’s meeting.
- Led by the Servicio Hidrográfico Naval, the “Echoes of Two Canyons” campaign will map the Bahía Blanca and Almirante Brown canyons using high-resolution bathymetry, CTD rosette casts, and the ROV SuBastian to study interactions with the Malvinas Current.
- Live ROV dives are planned on Schmidt Ocean Institute’s YouTube channel, following a Mar del Plata leg that drew more than 18 million views in three weeks.
- Collected specimens will be donated to the Bernardino Rivadavia natural sciences museum, and the crew is composed mainly of Argentine specialists along with two invited visual artists.
