Argentina’s Mining Exports to Rise 14% to Record High in 2025

Record lithium output is underpinning a fifth consecutive year of export growth by offsetting volume declines at aging gold and silver mines.

Overview

  • CAEM and BCR forecast a 14% increase in mining export value for 2025, lifting it above US$5.08 billion in nominal terms.
  • Lithium production is projected to climb about 75% year-on-year to nearly 130,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent, driving much of the export gain.
  • First-half mining exports have already jumped over 30% compared with the same period in 2024, led by battery-metal shipments.
  • Aging gold and silver deposits are reducing output and raising operating costs even as price projections near US$3,300 per ounce for gold and US$32 per ounce for silver support revenues.
  • New investments in copper exploration and development programmes aim to broaden Argentina’s mineral export mix beyond precious and battery metals.
